Its navigation and mapping abilities were also exceptional, as the robot was able avoid obstacles when moving furniture.

This robotic vacuum and mop is one of only a few in its class that uses LiDAR SLAM. This allows it to create detailed maps of the rooms in your home. It also has 10 flagship level sensors, so it can even navigate the tightest spaces. Despite its sophisticated capabilities, it consumes little energy for its cleaning and is extremely efficient.

The app controls the robot and features an easy-to-use interface. The main screen shows basic information like the status of the dust bin, mop and filter pad plate. You can also set cleaning settings and create highly customized schedules and generate reports directly from the app.

You can also create zones that block the robot from entering certain areas of your house. This is a great method to keep your robot out of areas that aren't suitable for it. For example, a pet area or the kitchen. The app also allows you to track the battery's condition and ensure that it's fully charged for optimal performance.

When the robot is finished cleaning, it automatically returns to its Station to charge. The station is able to be moved from one area to another, but is a bit noisy when it is sucking up the dirt before returning to its charging dock.

There is some physical set-up required when you first take the K10+ out of its packaging and remove any foam padding from crevices and gaps. It's recommended to position the machine near an electrical socket and you'll require good WiFi coverage in order to connect to the app. The included accessories include a filter spare, side brush and package of disposable mop pads. They're a great complement to the robot since they provide you with additional convenience and reduce the amount of time you'll spend swapping out items.

The Shark IQ XL

The Shark IQ XL is a intelligent robot that comes with many features. It's also reasonably well-built and is priced at less than $400. The side brush on the robot may occasionally fail to catch dirt or swish it away. It also navigates in straight lines rather than zigzagging like more advanced robots.

You can create no-go areas on the map of the IQ XL app by dragging boundary rectangles. These boxes can be difficult to draw and adjust. We prefer virtual walls.

The IQ XL also has a feature we found to be extremely useful called the Ultra-Clean mode. This mode doubles the suction power and makes use of its brushes to sweep the floor in a crosshatch. This is especially useful for high-traffic areas however we're disappointed to see that it's not offered on all of the company's current models. You can, however, set a timer that will automatically trigger a single Ultra Clean cycle in any room of the home.

The Shark Matrix

Shark's ION series robot vacuums are a cut above the competition with their LIDAR mapping capabilities and bagless self-emptying vacuums bases. The Matrix however is an extra step by offering a 2-in-1 vacuuming/mopping.

Like most robotic vacuums, the Matrix can be used as an upright cleaner or set to scrub and agitate your floors using a powered pad to give your floors a more thorough clean. It can be used in both vacuum and mop modes, which utilize the same cleaning pad for both cleaning your floors and getting rid of any stubborn dirt or stains. The powerful cleaning mode of the matrix is particularly impressive for carpets, using the grid of a matrix to make multiple passes over the dirt and debris to provide 30% better stain removal when compared to Roomba robot vacuums.

The Matrix is also a lot easier to use than the modern Roomba. Setting up a spot cleaning zone is as simple as dragging a square in the appropriate tab in the Shark app, whereas Roomba owners must manually create and name a specific cleaning zone on their map. Furthermore, the Matrix has an actual power button should you want to initiate a clean without opening the app.

The Matrix also includes other features that increase the quality of life including three suction power settings (normal Eco, Eco and high-power "Max") and recharge and resume features that let it pick up right where it left off in the event that it has to return to its dock. The battery life was a bit higher than the AI Ultra's and its overall performance in removing debris from a variety surfaces was exceptional.

The only downside to the Matrix is that it drains battery faster than other models and its performance in cleaning pet hair is inconsistent. The Matrix is still a great option for most homes and it improves the AI Ultra in a few important ways. It feels considerably better built it recharges quicker and provides superior debris pickup on low-pile carpeting. Plus, its 'Eco' and Max modes are a welcome improvement over the AI Ultra's Normal mode.
