The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad and was doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. The band started out as a group and recorded two albums - 1979's self-titled debut album, and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The album was a massive blockbuster, but not without difficulties. Record companies put the band on place with the directive "give us a hit record or we'll drop you" and the pressure was on them to deliver. Luckily for Toto they did, with the help of the smash hit single "Africa."

The album starts out hard with tracks like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write fantastic AOR tunes that slowly get into your head. The album also has some more mellow, jazzy tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations. After Toto IV, the band's fortunes changed for the worse. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career and the band had several drummers. Toto released Isolation despite the turbulence. It wasn't as popular as IV. The group managed to release an album that topped the charts, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the end of the original Toto lineup and was the first album to feature the new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album is a return to a classic sextet format and it was a more consistent, more powerful album with a sharper edge. The more edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the growth of the band. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing ability to play was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had grown more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard work was also more sophisticated, sharper, and less derivative on earlier efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live show in Amsterdam that was released as a two-CD set entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released a new studio album a few months later, and went on a world tour to promote the album. During this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for 토지노 커뮤니티 Paich and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich and Lukather started looking through old tapes and demos for a new album featuring songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed in 2001 as a duo album titled Then and Now. It was the first album in the band's history not to feature a single song with the word "A" in its title. It also included one previously unreleased track, "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure, and the vocalist Williams was suffering from a severe laryngitis condition that limited his singing abilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the original members of Asia, met in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the group could be reformed. The lineup, with the exception of Howe who was busy with Yes at the time, was renamed Toto XIV. They toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also had the appearance of singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
