Bagless WiFi-Connected Robot Vacuum

This bagless wifi-connected robot has a utilitarian, all-black design. Its cost is comparable to premium smart robotic vacuums.

You can control it with the physical Clean and Dock buttons on the top of the screen, through the SharkClean app, or via voice commands via Alexa and Google Assistant. It comes with a variety of smart features, such as home mapping and virtual no-go zones.

Matrix Clean

The top vacuum cleaner in America (based on NPD Group/Retail Tracking Services data). Matrix Clean has incredible suction power as well as Matrix & Precision Mapping. It also comes with an automatic emptying bottom.

SharkClean is an app that you can download on your smartphone to map out your rooms. The app lets you create a schedule to keep your home spotless or you can select certain rooms to have Matrix start cleaning automatically. You can also set 'no-go' zones like closets or beds that you don't want Matrix to get into.

The app also allows you to use the "spot" cleaning on demand feature. You can select a dirty spot on your floor map and the robot will move over that area with multiple swipes of its cleaning pad. It does an excellent job of removing everything from loose dog hair tumbleweeds to tiny pieces of paper cut up from a recent crafting project.

The Matrix will return to its dock when it is finished cleaning, and empty itself in the bin provided. This is a nice feature as it eliminates the requirement to do maintenance.

The robot's LIDAR mapping sensor is situated just above. This may make it difficult to get under low-lying furniture such as sofas and tables. This is a great option if you don't care that it's slightly larger than other robots. Be aware that this robot isn't equipped with a HEPA air filter like some other models in this list.

Precision Home Mapping

Shark's Matrix Clean Navigation is a precision grid that ensures no spot is missed. Incredible suction pulls dirt, dust and other debris to a bagless base with 60-day capacity. Precision home mapping combines 360deg of LiDAR vision with a precise home map in the SharkClean application to allow completely autonomous movement and intelligent object avoidance. It creates a detailed map of your space, day or night and allows for complete navigation without bumping furniture and other obstructions. You can either leave your robot to clean your home according to a schedule or utilize the Matrix Clean on Demand app and set specific targets for each room.

Powerful Suction

The RV2502AE is an excellent mid-range robot cleaner that ticks all of the boxes. It's easy to use and produces precise home maps and has bags that self-empty. It's also less expensive to operate than many other robot vacuums.

It has a lot of power. It uses its side brushes to push carpet fibers and hair into the brushroll. This stops the brushroll from clogging up and becoming messy, as seen in other robotic vacuums. Besides its suction-boosting and self-emptying base, this robot features Matrix Clean Navigation for a thorough cleaning, Precision Home Mapping for object avoidance, and a high-efficiency HEPA filter that traps 99 percent of odors dust mites, and allergens and two power modes for various floor types and a remote control that gives you access to all its functions. It is also compatible with voice assistants, such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant which means you can begin cleaning without having to touch the robot.

While it's a great option for the majority of homes but some may find its navigation capabilities problematic. The bump bot had issues with stairs. Other bump bots are able to avoid them, but this one couldn't. It relied on LiDAR sensors and infrared to map my house, but kept mistaking the cat condo as stairs and asked me if I wanted to move it. It also had 180 minutes of runtime before it ran out of power, which was less than advertised.

Self-Empty Base

Some robots - like this one - feature self-emptying bases which vacuum or dump the debris in the onboard dustbin into an external dirt compartment for easier maintenance. They're referred to as the Clean Base Dirt Disposal by iRobot, Auto Empty Station by Ecovacs or Bagless Self Emptying Base by Shark. They're a wonderful convenience, however they can be noisy and messy, and they usually require the use of special disposal bags.

This Shark model is bundled with a HEPA-filtered bagless base, and boasts a huge capacity. It can hold debris for up to 60 days and does not require daily emptying like some other models. There's also a hefty dose of amazing Shark suction to tackle even the biggest messes. The only issue is that the docking station's vacuum system to empty the onboard dust bin is surprisingly loud.

When the robot is connected and charging it, it will emit an audible beep and a green light on its top will blink to signal that it's ready to begin cleaning. When the battery of the robot is depleted it will dock to its base until it's recharged. It's important that the dock or Self-Empty Base is positioned where it isn't obstructed by furniture or other objects, and is clear of any obstructions in the area in front of it.

Although this model is a little pricier than some of the other mid-range robotic mop models we've examined, it is well-built and has better performance on plain floors as well as a longer battery life, less maintenance requirements and a wider range of automation features, including virtual boundary markers. The iRobot Roomba i7, however remains our top option because it is more robust and more refined, is faster in charging and is able to be tangled with rug tassels much less frequently and has a higher capacity battery.

Easy Setup

The Shark AI Ultra has a simple to use schedule that only requires only a few inputs. You can choose the day and time of sunset and sunrise as well as the duration of the ramp time (increasing or decreasing the brightness) and if you want to turn on the lights at nighttime.

It doesn't have the ability to control voice or smart mapping like Alexa and Google Assistant but it has a very useful, free programming suite. This suite has various Windows-based applications that permit the setting of operating parameters and communication settings, dmXLAN node and switch configuration, real-time tests and fast replication of the configuration to multiple installations.

The interface is simple to comprehend for even the most novice user. It includes tabs at the top that correspond to the different screens that the installer will show, and there are also tabs that allow you to play with the various options for colors and messages. It is a powerful tool that lets you quickly create an installation of your program. It is lightweight at 1.3MB and can be used with any operating system from Windows 7 down to Windows 95.
