iRobot Combo Review

Combo is the first mop-and-vacuum robot, and is the company's best-looking. The top piece of brushed aluminum and iRobot logo are more elegant than the blaring designs of competitors.

The irobot mopping robot Home application is used to help you set up and guide your robot. The app gathers usage data and maps of your home that include furniture and obstacles. Maps and information about images are only shared when you've opted-in.

It's not a mop.

The Combo irobot is a very smart mopping robot that takes all the features of the great Roomba j7+ and adds an on-board water reservoir, a small mopping pad, and a clever robot arm that lifts and lowers the pad. It can accomplish quite a bit of work in 11 minutes before running out of juice and returning to its base station for recharge.

The model that includes the iRobot Home app, so you can begin or stop cleaning runs. It's also a good-looking robot, sporting matte black plastic that does not show fingerprints or dust and the top piece of aluminum is brushed with a small iRobot logo.

It's a great vacuum cleaner and is able to cross over large area carpets or transition strips between flooring surfaces. It can even pick up fine dust that other robotic vacuums fail to pick up. However, it's not so well in cutting. It can't obliterate dried milk stains, like unless you send it out at least four or five times.

IRobot's specialized Braava Jet M6 mopping robot, which is available in combination with the J7 Plus, often for less than the price of the combo Combo is much more effective in this and other difficult tasks. It can also remove ketchup and wine spills, but I would not recommend it following any liquids with a high amount of sugar.

It's a vacuum

It's also one of the most attractive robot vacuums, with a smooth top piece that doesn't display dust and fingerprints as easily as other models. The tiny dustbin and water tank of this vacuum are easy to open, however they're not the largest. The Combo j7+ also has the smarts you expect from iRobot with features like map and obstacle avoidance mapping that works efficiently and quickly. The mopping arm is the thing that makes this model stand out from the rest of its competitors. The mop pad is kept on top of the robot vacuum. When it detects a surface which requires mopping the pad is moved under and behind the robot vacuum. It's an electric charging station.

When you're ready to charge your Combo irobot, just place it on the charging station and align its metal contacts to those on the base. The charging station is easy to set up and performs well. During my testing it took just a few minutes for the robot's to start charging and to make a noise when it was completed. After the Combo Irobot is fully recharged, you can begin mapping runs in the app to help it better understand your home. You can also mark certain items such as lamp cords as permanent avoidances in the app. You can also connect Alexa or Google Assistant to your robot to allow commands with your voice to navigate around the house.

It's a smart device

Combo irobots depend on the use of acoustic sensors as well as onboard cameras to determine the kind of floor they're cleaning, and also the objects that are in your home. It also blends this information with maps of your home and data from the robot's onboard camera to develop a custom cleaning plan for each room.
