It's a great choice for those who have pets or children and want to keep the mess at bay. It didn't fare as well in our tests for pet hair, compared to the Samsung Powerbot R7070 and Neato Botvac Connected.

The Roomba 980P from iRobot is their top-of-the-line model, and it's better on its predecessor in a variety of ways. It is smarter, stronger and more adept at removing pet hair. It also comes with remote control.

One issue is that the 980 does not include a display, or a manual control. This is a major disadvantage for a vacuum which relies heavily on its intelligent features. Its competitions such as Neato's Botvac Connected and LG's RoboKing line have more control options.

iRobot Roomba 960S

The latest iRobot robot vacuum is a powerhouse that can quickly and effortlessly remove dirt from carpeted areas as well as hard floors. It also features an effective cleaning system that features 10 times the power-lifting suction of older Roombas and a dual-swivelling brush to reach corners and get under furniture. It can even automatically mop your floors after it has vacuumed.

The carpet boost is loud. We measured it at around 80 dB--about as loud as a prop plane flying overhead. You can use an electronic fence to keep it away from sensitive areas, like the dog's water and food bowls.
