Smart Mapping

Some of the best robot vacuums come with an app that lets you to customize cleaning settings, set schedules and see a map of your area of floor that the machine covers. This is an extremely useful feature that some competitors don't have. It is easy to create profiles that will automatically start your robot at certain time intervals and run it on a regular basis, like cleaning the living room before dinner or on a regular basis.

A good app can also allow you to control your robot using voice commands. Some models support Amazon's Alexa or Google Assistant and can work completely hands-free. You can say "start a clean" or "change cleaning mode" without having to use the app.

For a truly hands-free experience, choose a model with a large dust bin that can hold numerous cleaning sessions before needing to be empty. There are also models that are self-emptying which takes a portion of the work out of emptying the robot after each vacuuming run.

If you're looking for a machine that can do more than simply vacuum, you'll need to look into a model which can mop your floors. They are typically larger than robotic vacuums, and include a tank of water that can hold multiple cleaning sessions' worth of dirt and dust before needing to emptied.
