World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrade of an item can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all the upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and can be seen on all item tooltips. It can also be used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). The average level of an item can be found in the character sheet.

The level of an item can help players evaluate the potency of gear when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the item's condition and quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a seller.

On your PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a variety of theories on how the item level is determined. One theory states that the item level is determined by formulas that determine the value of the stats of an item really are. It takes into consideration that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets boost the value of the item upgrader mod. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is typically close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, since the level of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for example by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The stat mods on an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item upgrading with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can be used to give the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an exclusive name to the item.

All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges as with other rerolling methods.

Players can choose to upgrade an item with a specific stat, or reroll the affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it's a unique item or a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll attaches, or select which stats to increase. As with the base equipment, this would have to be done per item and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of an item up to 140.

Furthermore, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available in the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%..

The luck of an item can also influence the success of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade item overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
