How to Replace an audi a3 key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different connector pins, and they perform different functions but the most effective way to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start if the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is plugged in however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.

holding-car-keys-woman-in-formal-clothesI'm not sure what to do, as i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and Audi a5 Key fob measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that needs to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could lead to an engine shut down.

Some of the symptoms of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially if they're a Bosch sensor like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this part is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous problems in your vehicle. It's a vital component of your audi car key's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the audi car key case's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU then processes this signal to control fuel, timig and boost and then transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and audi tt replacement key (Wikiexcerpt noted) the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common feature across the Audi Replacement Key Cost Uk 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find good ones in wrecking yards.
