The Best Self-Empting Robot Vacuum Bagless Cleaners

Shoppers who adore this self-emptying robot vacuum say it's powerful enough to tackle pet hair dirt, dust, and more on any floor type. It features a three-stage clean system that can be controlled with the smart speaker or mobile app.

This upgrade to the standard robot vacuum may be worth it for those who are able to afford it. It comes with a huge bin that only needs to emptied once every 30-60 days.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO comes with two multi-surface rubber flexible brushes and is designed to remove most types of debris from floors. It works well on hard floors and is great at sweeping up larger particles and dust. However, it struggles with pet hair. It can also blow out particles such as kosher salt and kitty litter, which require another sweep.

It includes a Clean/Power button in the middle, and Home and Spot Clean buttons on either side. The light ring around the Clean/Power button glows solid white when the battery is charged, blinks red when the battery is empty and turns blue when looking for its Clean Base in Dirt Detect mode (more on that later).

The robot will empty its bin automatically when it returns to its base. You can manually empty the bin if it's full, but this takes quite a while and requires you to take the bin from the base and clean the filter.

This robot was able to perform very well on carpet and hard floors in our tests. Its mapping system is smart and works better than most others', storing multiple maps and offering a variety of functions such as the ability to schedule and customize cleaning. It does not allow you to create Keep-Out Zones, or clean specific rooms, which is crucial when your home is on more than one floor. You may want to think about the Roborock Q5+, which has a smart-mapping feature that is superior and provides more customization options through its app.

2. Shark Matrix

Shark, one half of home appliance conglomerate SharkNinja, is a relative newcomer in the robotic vacuum space. However Shark has grown quickly in popularity due to offering an extensive selection of affordable robots that have a high build quality. Their flagship model called the Matrix, is a powerful entire home cleaner with amazing suction power and intelligent features.

The Shark Matrix comes with a self-emptying station which automatically empty the bag after every clean, eliminating the hassle of changing it manually. Like all Shark robots and models, the Matrix can be programmed to run on a timer or remotely controlled by voice commands to make it easy to use hands-free. It also incorporates a the cliff sensor to prevent falling down the stairs and optical encoders to measure how much it has been cleaned.

While it may lack the sophisticated vSLAM mapping that is found in the Roomba S9, the Matrix is a good option for anyone searching for an affordable robotic vacuum. Its cleaning pathing is efficient, even on carpeted floors and it provides decent dirt pickup on all surfaces. It also comes with a more powerful cleaning head than the S9 and self-cleaning brushrolls that are perfect for hair from pets.

Shark's app is frustratingly slow and insecure when it is used with the robot. The iRobot HOME application however is definitely more intuitive and reliable.

3. iRobot Roomba i3

With its top-quality construction and impressive performance on bare floors, the Roomba i3 is one of our most loved robot vacuum bagless models. It feels solidly built, moves effortlessly around obstacles, and is able to recharge quickly. It has a large dustbin that is easy to empty.

This Roomba model doesn't have top-mounted cameras that are able to identify objects or look for unique features to remember, like the more expensive models do. Instead, it employs downward-facing optical sensors to identify obstacles when they arise, builds up an outline of your floor plan when it goes through cleaning cycles, and pays close attention to internal sensors such as gyroscopes and wheel odometers. iRobot's Genius update, which adds smart mapping without increasing the cost of the robot - lets you direct it to clean specific areas using the iRobot Home app or your voice assistant.

The app or the docking station can trigger Roomba to trigger Roomba to empty its dustbin inside and place it in the larger bin. The docking station and the robot also communicate with each other using beacons to ensure they're in close proximity before the robot starts cleaning.

You can also schedule cleanings using the iRobot Home app or utilize your voice assistant to initiate a spot clean of any area that needs an immediate fix. The dual rubber brushes are designed to remove pet hair, dirt and other stubborn debris. The reactive sensor technology means you don't have to manually adjust the head's height or suction power. If you prefer an easier-to-manage experience however, you should check out the Shark iQ Plus or Roborock S6 MaxV.

Roomba from iRobot

This robot vacuum is among the best in regards to self-emptying. It comes with a dirt bin that automatically empties when full into the base of the robot. It uses patented Dirt Detect Technology to help it identify and clean the dirtiest areas of the room. The edgesweeping brush operates continuously and its dual multi-surface rubber brushes flex to adapt to your floors, allowing them to remove and loosen the most stubborn dirt. This is coupled with powerful suction that captures and holds dust and dirt and mopping tanks that release a liquid solution to thoroughly clean your floors.

It's a great option for floors that are unfinished and can be used in small amounts of carpet that is low-pile. It does not remove pet hair as efficiently as other models, and can struggle to handle bulky items like cereal when the dirt container gets full. It is also limited in its maneuverability and can get caught up in things such as rug tassels or electrical cords. It has a decent battery life and is quick to charge.

The iRobot Combo i5 goes to the next stage by adding mopping capabilities. Simply replace the Roomba Combo cleaning bin and the robot will instantly transform into a multi-surface vacuum/mop robot. It can be guided by the iRobot App or voice commands when linked to a smart assistant device.

It's better in cleaning floors with no floor and low-pile carpet than the iRobot Roomba E5 and has an allergen-trapping HEPA filter. It's not as sophisticated as the Shark AI Robot, and it has more parts to clean regularly. It's more solid and has longer battery life, however, it is also more expensive to operate.

5. Roomba iRobot i7 from iRobot

The Roomba i7 has one very unique feature that we do not find in other robot vacuums: an automated dirt disposal system built into its base. When it's docked, the pipe on the Clean Base automatically suctions debris from the robot vacuum and Mop bagless's bin into a special bag named Smart Maps by iRobot. It's an easy, clean method to empty the bin that robot vacuums. It's not necessary to lift the old bin and let it go around (which can lead to a minor dustsplosion). However, it also introduces some operating cost for owning this top-rated model. You'll have to purchase another bag every time the old one is full and, while they're relatively inexpensive however, you'll be resentful about throwing them to the trash.

Once you get your i7+ and its Clean Base installed you can begin cleaning right away or ask it to perform a couple exploratory non-vacuuming training runs to create a floor map of the space. Once you have a map of the space you can use the iRobot app to label rooms and build virtual barriers. You can also define the time for cleaning specific to certain rooms.

The i7+ robot vacuum with bagless self empty vacuum is a premium model. It's powerful and comes with all the features you'd want in a home automation system however, it's costly and difficult to justify. The competition is a lot cheaper and includes the Roborock S7, which feels better built, incurs lower recurring costs and has a longer maximum runtime and does a better job on floors that are not clean than the i7+. We suggest that you consider a different option unless you're absolutely committed to having an accurate map of your home that is up-to-date.
