The X2 Omni robot vacuum-mop is the latest in Ecovacs range of hybrid robot vacuum mops. This model that is wet-dry is fitted with Ecovacs' new AIVI 3D 2.0 lidar system that provides improved mapping and obstacles avoidance. It uses dual laser LiDAR, similar to the one used in self-driving vehicles. It can scan a space up to 32 feet by the 270-degree angle. This means more precise mapping and faster response times and better cleaning accuracy.

It also features a rotating mopping pad constructed of chenille fabric, which makes it easier to scrub hard spots than traditional mopping. During my tests the X2 Omni washed its pad in less than a second and was ready to go. I noticed that it was more precise than other models that seemed to follow the grid of rooms. It was adept at navigating my rooms by the corners and edges and also create a "Zambani pattern" that ran up and down the middle of the room. It also returned to its OMNI station frequently to empty the dustbin and clean the mop using hot water before starting another cleaning job.

The X2 Omni is just as simple to use and set up as other Ecovacs products. It takes just a few minutes to snap the dock into place, plug it in, and pair with your home Wi-Fi network. After that, you can launch the app and get started with your first cleaning project. I was able to modify my floor plan within 15 minutes. This included creating limited areas for sweeping and mopping as well as rearranging the positioning of furniture on the wall and much more. The X2 Omni was astonished in my tests, achieving excellent scores in cleaning pet hair and debris cleaning and near-perfect results in edge and crevice cleaning.

2. Deebot T10 Omni

If you're looking for a strong combination of mopping and vacuuming look into the EcoVACS Deebot Omni. It is the most advanced of the T-line from the brand and features the new OZMO Turbo2.0 mopping system that uses dual-spinning brush for better cleaning than the traditional scrubbers. It also has YIKO built-in, a first-of-its-kind natural language processing technology that can respond to a wide range of voice commands. The ECOVACS App lets you plan your home, make cleaning schedules, and alter settings.

The most significant issue with the T10 Omni is that it can't switch from mopping to vacuuming in one run. Both modes require that you attach and remove the mop heads according to the need, which is fine for most homes but not an ideal choice for those who lead busy lives.

The Deebot T10 Omni is an excellent robot vacuum that delivers outstanding results in our pet hair tests. It was able to vacuum up more than 96% of the particles we tossed at it on our hardwood flooring, which is an outstanding performance. It also did a fantastic job with tile and carpet cleaning up more than 90% of dirt and debris.

This robot vacuum and mops comes with an extensive docking system that allows for automatic cleaning using cool water for the mop pads. It also features an auto-emptying 3L bag which is easy to replace and hot air drying for fast and simple maintenance. It also has a huge water tank that permits frequent washing and drying between mopping runs.

As with other mopping robots such as the Deebot T10, this one has a wash tray in its base that cleans and dries the mop pads as it uses them. It doesn't have a tray that can be removed, which means that dust, dirt and other grime can slowly build up on the bottom.

3. RoboVac X8 hybrid

This is the first mopping model made by Anker that is renowned for its robot vacuums. It has enhanced smarts, multiple map support, and LIDAR scanning, as well as twin-turbine suction technology that automatically adapts to the surface you're cleaning. It's a mid-range robot cleaner that's appealing even if its claim of being a one-stop shop for floor cleaning does not make sense.

The X8 Hybrid appears to be an ordinary robotic cleaner from the top. It has a circular shape with sweeping wheels, and an elevated sensor area. Turn it upside down, however, and you'll find a motorised floor brush plus a single side sweeper brush that pushes dirt from the edges of the machine into the main path of the robot's 'mouth'. It's smaller than the main brushes on the rival iRobot Roomba S9, which I found to be easier to fit under sofas and chairs.

Its mapping system is reasonably sophisticated, allowing you to set no-mop zones and specific cleaning zones. However it is prone to bump into things (including its charging dock) and isn't always adept in climbing over carpets. It was capable of picking up pet hair on floors that were not paved, though, and in our tests, it took in 89.5 percent of litter, which puts it ahead of any of the most powerful robots we've examined.

While it's controllable via the app and the app, the X8 Hybrid also comes with physical buttons on its base, which allow you to choose a cleaning mode, and switch the robot off or on. These buttons can be used to set up zones that are not allowed to be visited and to look up maps in real-time. It's a bit chatty too, and will tell you what it's planning to do next ("start cleaning") or even warn you that something is wrong (it doesn't have enough power to charge, for instance).

4. ILIFE A4s

This high-tech model can remove pet hair, kibble, and other particles with impressive effectiveness. It also moves effortlessly around furniture legs. It comes with a feature set that is impressive, such as two cleaning modes and an automatic docking station, and real-time obstacle avoidance technology. It's Wi-Fi enabled and best controlled using the Neato app where cleaning can be scheduled and the overall maintenance requirements are monitored. The X2 Omni is an excellent choice for large homes with hardwood carpet and floors, but it requires some advance planning to avoid getting stuck on power cords, toys or other unexpected obstacles.

In our test of hardwood floors and kibble it performed well and was able to pick up everything from a single grain of rice to several pieces of dog food in one sweep. It had a bit of difficulties transitioning to rugs however, in general, this vacuum cleaner is perfect for large spaces with flooring of all kinds and a mix of pets.

The A4s Pro is expensive but it's an excellent buy for people who want to be able to leave the house with no hands on so they can take on other tasks or take care chores. The A4s Pro also offers a convenient auto cleaning mode that increases suction power to deal with tough spills and dirt and includes a battery-powered ElectroWall which allows you to place boundaries where the robot isn't permitted to enter.

This budget-friendly choice from a well-known brand is the cheapest robot we've tested yet and offers an exceptional value for the price. Its navigation system is basic and uses an extremely basic random pathing algorithm, but it doesn't have room mapping capabilities, making it less efficient than other models on this list. However it's still able to navigate under furniture and into corners and its mopping mode worked very well during our tests, picking up stray pet hair and other debris effortlessly.

5. Shark iQ

Shark's iQ might not be as sturdy however, it's better in cleaning pet hair off all surfaces. It gets rid of floors with less efficiently and does a decent job on carpets with a low pile, and it uses smart-pathing navigational technology for better maneuverability. It also allows you to assign it to a specific room, and its sophisticated suite of automation features include no-go zones as well as scheduling. It can even pause and resume a cleaning session, so it's perfect for households with pets.

Its self-cleaning brushroll helps prevent knots from pet hair and other debris, and its bagless self-emptying dock station can store up to 30 days worth of dirt before it needs to be emptied. It also has a set of angled side brushes that penetrate into corners and its multi-stage filtration system can capture dust, dander, and allergens for cleaner air.

The iQ robot vacuum is well-built and feels solid. It is compatible with a smartphone application that lets you change the vacuum's settings and schedule cleaning sessions in advance. The app also lets you view the remaining battery life of the iQ and receive notifications via push for any issues it encounters during its cleaning session. You can control it with your voice via an Amazon Alexa device or Google Assistant device. If you don't have either of these devices you can mark the boundaries of your area with physical boundary markers strips.

The iQ does a decent job of clearing bare floors and does a decent job on low-pile and shaggy carpet, but it doesn't have the same level of autonomy as our top picks. It's also expensive and its ongoing costs can add up over time.
